Cincinnati Women Bloggers is the brainchild of Shannan Boyer, Laura Deaton Morarity and Debba Haupert. Launched in 2008, the group was created to bring women together once a month to talk about blogging and other social media tools. In 2010 Laura left the group to pursue her ski-bunny dreams in Seattle with her husband Jon and Debba, who remains an active CWB member, stepped down to focus on her business. Today the organization is led by Shannan Boyer (you can’t get rid of her…), Katy Crossen and Susan Jackson.
Shannan Boyer
A small town girl from Iowa, Shannan’s been into technology ever since she got her hands on her first computer – an Apple 2GS. Since then there’s been no stopping her. During the day she works as the director of social media for a local public relations firm and at night she spends her time with her husband (also a technology geek) and their two sons. When she’s not busy blogging here or developing social media programs for her clients, Shannan can be found writing at Family Friendly Cincinnati as well as on her personal blog, Mommy Bits. You can keep up with Shannan on Twitter @ShannanB and on LinkedIn at ShannanB.
Katy Crossen
Katy Crossen spent her childhood years in Cincinnati and is pleased to have an answer when playing the Tri-State’s favorite game,Where’d you go to school?, despite moving to the East Coast as a teen. By day, Katy serves as a media relations specialist for a major non-profit organization. By night, Katy soaks up the area’s nightlife, culture and dining scenes and shares her insight, discoveries, opinions and other minutia on her blog, Kate’s Random Musings. It is in this space, and in the social media community, that she is better known by the overly inflated moniker,
Prior to entering the media relations/non-profit world, Katy spent nine years working as a television news producer at Cincinnati’s CBS affiliate WKRC/Local 12, and ABC affiliate WTVQ in Lexington, Kentucky. Katy has a BA in journalism-general editorial from the University of Kentucky, where she was also appropriately schooled in the ways of basketball, bourbon and Bluegrass horse racing.
When Katy is not working or socializing, she is likely volunteering for several of Cincinnati’s cultural, civic and service-oriented organizations.Kate the Great. Kate is quite willing to share (and sometimes over share) the nuances of her life on Twitter.
Regarding the Katy vs. Kate thing, she says either one is fine. “Just don’t call me ‘Bitch.’”
Susan Jackson
A native Cincinnatian, Susan Wenner Jackson is a writer, editor and blogger (Working Moms Against Guilt and Family Friendly Cincinnati) who thrives on flexibility in her professional and personal life. In 2009, Susan left the corporate life of “working for the man” to strike out on her own as a freelance copywriter and social media consultant. She is the mother of a preschooler daughter and infant son.
Prior to Susan’s life as a freelancer, she spent time writing and editing at dunnhumbyUSA, a relevance marketing firm, and five years as a copywriter/director at Bridge Worldwide. She was also a magazine editor and newspaper reporter. Susan got a master’s degree at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, and a bachelor’s degree in journalism at Miami University.
